Альбом Oxygene ("Кислород") был записан Жарром на простом восьмиканальном оборудовании, размещённом у него дома, на кухне. От издания записи отказались все звукозаписывающие компании, в которые обращался композитор. Была середина семидесятых, эпоха диско и панка. "Даже моя мама, - вспоминает Жарр, - говорила мне: "Почему ты даёшь своей музыке название газа?".

В итоге студенческая подружка Жарра уговорила своего мужа издать альбом в своей звукозаписывающей компании. Первые 50 тысяч копий дали старт популярности композитора, которая с 1976-го года по 1980-й разрослась до всемирной. Сейчас тираж этого альбома насчитывает второй десяток миллионов экземпляров.

Самая популярная композиция из третьего альбома "Магнитные Поля" ("Magnetic Fields"/"Les Chants Magnétiques). В 1981-м Жарр стал первым западным артистом, выступившим в Китае - он дал 5 концертов в Пекине и Шанхае. Это видео - запись с одного из тех концертов.

Using his hallmark state-of-the-art visual and sound technology, the French musician stressed the importance of protecting and properly managing the planet’s limited freshwater resources and halting the advance of desertification: “We want this concert to be a wake up call. We want to make people more aware of just how precious water is and the critical need to look after what we have. If everybody understood just how little water the earth has, or how many people are going without it – and dying as a result – or how much of it is being wasted, we might be able to find better ways of managing and sharing it. The problem of desertification is intimately linked to this situation and also requires urgent action.” Jean Michel Jarre said.
Desertification affects the lives of more than 250 million people and threatens another 1.2 billion people in 110 countries. An estimated 60 million of those affected in sub-Saharan Africa are expected to move towards northern Africa and Europe by 2020, according to the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
About 6,000 spectators attended the spectacular concert in the Moroccan Sahara, which was also broadcast live across the region by Moroccan public television and to the rest of the world via the internet and on High Defi nition channels.

Jarre was invited to return to China in October 2004 to launch The Year of France, a cultural exchange between both States. Jarre’s history with China over the years, made him the most obvious ambassador to introduce French culture. For the concert setting, Jarre was offered the historic Forbidden City for the main part, and Tian’Anmen Square for the encore, and for those who could not see him within the walls of the Forbidden City which has limited space.
The concert’s major breakthrough was the fact that the music was played live in 5.1 surround, which allowed for some impressive effects and the audience to be totally immersed in the music. Jarre deployed his entire range of artistic effects, excluding fireworks due to the invaluable wooden architecture of the magnificent ancient City. Jarre thrilled the Chinese audience with Laser Harp, Theremin, HD video and two ensembles comprised of a symphonic orchestra and a traditional Chinese orchestra accompanied Jarre who presented some spectacular arrangements of his compositions to include the particularities of traditional Chinese instruments.
Chinese national television’s broadcast went live around the country and across the globe to a record audience of over a billion.
The last part of the concert was outside the walls of the Forbidden City at the Tian-Anmen Square in front of the non-VIP audience. The concert was broadcast live on Chinese TV to more than one billion viewers, and the dvd release of the show was the first ever THX-certified concert.
